Tarkwa NDC In Disarray As PC Caught ‘Flirting’ With Bawumia

…As PC Caught ‘Flirting’ With Bawumia, Executives, Grassroots Disgruntled

There is a brewing tension among the rank and file of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency in the Western Region, over reports of alleged flirting by the party’s Parliamentary Candidate (PC) with top government functionaries.

This was after the parliamentary candidate, Issah Salifu Taylor, was secretly captured in a photograph, in queue to have audience with the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The emergence of the photo, The Anchor gathered, came after several months of suspicions by NDC grassroots that the candidate is in bed with the government.

The incident, reportedly took place at a private residence in Tarkwa, during a recent visit by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate.

The picture which has since gone viral, showed Mr Issah Taylor, wearing ‘Agbada’ dress with cap and beaming with smile in a handshake with Dr Bawumia.

According to The Anchor’s information, the latest development, has worsened the already escalating tension within the party, particularly among the constituency executives.

Some activists of the governing NPP, are also said to be sharing the photo and using it to mock their NDC opponents with the claim that their candidate, is broke and seeking financial favours from Dr Bawumia.

Angered by the development, some NDC sympathizers in Tarkwa, are calling for the parliamentary candidate to be changed, alleging that he cannot be trusted to deliver the required votes for the party and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, going into the December 7 crucial elections.

They argued that, Mr Issah Taylor, may not be able lead them to the promise land of victory, given the suspicions and lack of trust hovering around his head.

This paper, has also picked up reports that, the NDC Constituency Chairman, Mr Danladi Salifu, over the week, allegedly summoned a crunch meeting to trigger a motion to ostensibly suspend the parliamentary candidate over the issue in the wake of the growing agitation.

It is unclear, if the party hierarchy, will heed to the demand of the disgruntled executives and grassroots to change the candidate with barely six months to the December poll.

The latest development, adds to the growing list of intra-party conflicts in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem, which the NDC is grappling with after the party’s 2020 parliamentary candidate, John Justice Abban, was pushed aside.

The NDC, is yet to issue a statement on the matter, at the time of filing this report.

Mr Issah Taylor, a miner, was elected the parliamentary candidate of the NDC for the Tarkwa Nsuaem sometime in October 2023, to contest in the 2024 general election.

He polled 1,208 votes, to beat his two contenders, Mr Wilberforce Essien, and Professor George Adjei, who secured 300 and 101 votes, respectively.
