8 Lawyers, 12 Judges Shortlisted For Court Of Appeal

President Akufo-Addo, has shortlisted a total of eight highly accomplished private legal practitioners and 12 High Court justices for consideration as Justices of the Court of Appeal.

The latest nominations if approved, is expected to push the number of Court of Appeal judges to a total of 53, per this paper’s information.

The names of shortlisted individuals, have since been submitted to the Judicial Council for review, in a bid to enhance efficiency of Court of Appeal sittings, particularly outside Accra.

Prominent among the lawyers recommended for the appointment, included the current Director of Legal Affairs at the National Communications Authority (NCA), Dr Poku-Adusei, the Director of the Ghana School of Law, Yaw Oppong and legal luminary, Charles Zwennes from the respected Gaisie Zwennes Hughes & Colaw firm in Accra.

Interestingly, the inclusion of the former law lecturer at the University of Ghana Law Faculty, Dr Poku-Adusei on the list, has left some opposition elements disgruntled.

Dr Poku Adusei, is celebrated for his academic achievements, including a PhD in law from McGill University in Canada.

As a legal academic, he dedicated a significant portion of his career in classroom, lecturing and impacting knowledge.

He also previously held positions such as Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA).

But despite his impressive credentials, Dr Adusei, has been criticised for his vocal opposition to government critics and his controversial remarks on national issues.

Reports suggest, the celebrated legal luminary, had to swiftly deactivate his social media account due to the criticisms on his Facebook page, shortly after the list of his nomination as a judge for the Court of Appeal went viral on social media.
