…Says ‘We Need To Scale Up Western Region’s Business Competitiveness’
The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has underscored the need for a fundamental change in the approach to build strong business capabilities and extensive international networks to scale up business competitiveness in the Western Region.
Mr. Darko-Mensah said, it has reached a point where the local economy must be promoted through joint efforts and capacity building so as to seize the opportunity for growth in the region.
Speaking at this year’s Regional Business Awards, dubbed “Paa Grant Medals for Business Excellence,” in Takoradi on Friday, August 4, 2023, Mr. Darko-Mensah assured that the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) is poised to coordinate and implement strategic events to help open new avenues for businesses.
The highly patronized event, held on the theme, “The Potential for Trade and Industries for Sustainable Development,” saw businessmen and women, as well as companies which are doing well and growing the economy of the region in previous year, awarded.
The minister, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for (MP) Takoradi, submitted that, “we must build up strong business capabilities and extensive international networks in order to seize growth opportunities.”
According to him, it is high time our businesses adopted differentiated growth strategies in today’s globalized digital economy.
He also stressed on “the need to promote the local economy through joint effort with H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to advocate for the patronization of locally manufactured products.”
This, he added, calls for comprehensive measures to scale up production at reduced costs.
He indicated that the “Paa Grant Medal for Business Excellence Award” is an avenue for individual entrepreneurs to build relationships with industry players, as effective means to network for business growth.
The regional minister commended Star Ghana Limited, for working, in partnership with the Western Regional Coordinating Council, towards the successful event.
“I commend Star Ghana Limited for the partnership with the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC), on the initiative to create award ceremony which honours exceptional companies, businessmen and women,” he stated.
Adamus Resources Limited, a gold mining company in the Ellembelle district, was adjudged the best mining company in the Western Region.
