Brogya Genfi HeadsTo Court

A losing contender in the just-ended 10th Women and Youth Organizers’ elections of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ernest Yaw Brogya Genfi, has hinted at going to court over the outcome of the result.

According to the former Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer, even though the process has come to an end, the election of National Youth Organizer itself “is far from over,” suggesting he is not done yet, with an indication that he is set to take a legal action against the outcome of the election and the eventual winner, George Opare Addo, otherwise called Pablo.

“For the records, the election of National Youth Organizer of the NDC is far from over,” the defeated national Youth Organizer hopeful stated in a statement issued yesterday, December 12, and sighted by The Anchor.

The court is nothing new to Mr. Genfi, as, in the past, he has dragged many there, with the recent being the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tolon, Habib Iddrisu, whom he took to the Supreme Court for the annulment of his election in 2020.

Brogya Genfi, famously known as Armani, competed against the incumbent for the second time after the two contested for the same position for the first time in 2018.

The former NDC regional executive insisted that the Saturday election was schemed to favour the incumbent, Pablo.

He said the move goes contrary to decisions by orders of courts and also directives of the party.

“The processes leading to the 10th National Youth and Women’s Conference were fraught with deliberate manipulation of the delegates’ list to favour the incumbent.

This was in violation of express decisions and orders of courts of competent jurisdiction and the directives of the NDC,” he stressed.

The outspoken NDC communicator tasked the NDC, which will be holding a major conference this weekend in Accra, to put in place measures to ensure its electoral rules are not manipulated to favour any member, warning that the Youth Organizer  election“….is far from over.”

“I sincerely think that the party must take concrete steps to ensure that our rules and regulations are respected and not skewed to the advantage of anybody.

For the records, the election of National Youth Organizer of the NDC is far from over,” he stated.

Brogya had campaigned on a message of ‘Leadership of Courage’ at the youth front, giving the incumbent a good run for his money.

He polled some 508 votes against Pablo’s 533.

His message had been bought by various people in the party, including the national Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, and the Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency, Sam Nartey George, who publicly endorsed his candidature.

He however could not convince the majority of the delegates, as they rejected him for the second time in four years.

They rather chose the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of  Akuapim North, who is also a private legal practitioner.

The incumbent was seen as very docile, incapable and a candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), who, his accusers say, was funding his campaign.

In a message to thank his teeming supporters,Brogya said, “I further wish to thank all other stakeholders of our party as well as the rank and file for your kind support in diverse ways and for believing in my cause.

“Ayekoo” to all those who accepted my message of Leadership of Courage and voted for me, as well as those who did not.

To my teeming supporters, admirers and the rank and file of the party who desired for a change in the youth leadership, I say thank you to you all,” he stated.

Meanwhile, many of his supporters have asked that he shuns the intention to drag the issue to court. They argue it is one family affair and that there will be more elections in future.
