Media, Zoomlion Walk To Preserve Environment

Barely a week after Ghanaians planted over 20 million trees, to, among others, create and restore degraded landscapes across the country, Ghana’s premier waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana, has partnered the media in a walk to create awareness of the need to safeguard and preserve the environment.

The Walk led by Ghana’s fitness Ambassador Beade Bully, and dubbed ‘Walk for a clean Environment’, was started from the Ayi Mensa Toll Booth, all the way to the Aburi Presby Park.

The Saturday June 18, 2022 Walk was massively attended by both the media and employees of Zoomlion Ghana, as well as, employees of the JOSPONG Group of companies, parent company of the waste management firm.

It had several fun games including aerobics, ‘tag of war’ between the media and employees of Zoomlion and the JOSPONG Group, as well as brass band music and more.

There were also talks on healthy lifestyles by health professionals from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, who also offered free screening exercise for the participants.

Also present was natural medicine researcher and Oman FM’s, Oheneba Nrim-Barimah, who aside commending Zoomlion for the annual event, also noted  the walk was important considering the health benefits and the awareness created on clean environment.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the programme, Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mrs Emma Adwoa Appiaa Osei-Duah, said her outfit was happy to have, for the first time partnered the media, after years of involving only the staff of  the various subsidiaries of the JOSPONG Group of Companies.

According to Mrs Osei-Duah, the objective of the walk was to educate on the need to safeguard and protect the environment. She said it was also “to encourage people to own waste bins to manage waste on our homes”

Especially at a time the rains have set in and there are floods all over in the national capital, Mrs Osei-Duah stressed that “If you have the bin, when we generate the waste, it goes directly into the bin so it is unable to spill over the streets and also move into the gutters”.

She applauded the contribution of Ghanaians in the fight against waste tracing the history from when the whole waste management and treatment started.

In her view, even though the work is not completed done, people need to be encouraged to continue on the path to perfect the situation.

“We’ve come very far. This is why I always want to pat Ghanaians on the back, my reason is, when we started, we had mountains of wastes standing at the entrances of towns and cities and together with everybody in Ghana we have dealt with waste.

Today, we hardly see the mountains of waste, today people have gotten used to the owning of the waste bins.

We have become very much aware of waste and why we should not keep it around us and but rather manage it. Though we have come so far, we still have to encourage to do more.

“If you create waste then you should be able to manage it from entering the sea since that can be injurious to the health of living organisms in the sea and other water bodies,” she advised.

She tasked the public especially businesses, to ensure that they desilt their drains for free flow of water especially at this time of the year.
