EC Board Member Offers Prayer For Smooth Voter Registration Exercise

After some hitches at the start of the ongoing limited voter registration exercise on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, a member of the governing board of the Electoral Commission (EC) has sought the face of God to take control of the exercise.

Rev. Akua Ofori Boateng, who offered the powerful prayers yesterday, May 8, called on God to intervene in resolving the challenges that has characterized the exercise so far.

The glitches were largely as a result of technical challenges, as well as power outages, otherwise known as ‘dumsor’, The Anchor gathered.

But Rev Akua Boateng, who believed in miracles of God like every Christian, offered the prayer when she visited the Ayawaso West district office of the EC in Accra, where she witnessed at first hand technical challenges in the voter registration process.

As party agents gathered around her, she led a heartfelt prayer for the proper functioning of registration machines and connectivity.

She also prayed for eligible registrants, as well as party agents and their families in a video that has gone viral on various social media platforms.

The Prayer

“Father we are grateful. We thank you for this opportunity to gather here. Lord today, we are here to register people who qualify to be registered as voters. Lord our prayer is that you will be with us in this space. Father all of these people here, are here because we want the interest of Ghana, we want to make sure that we see this country progress as it should your word has said the government will rest on your shoulders of yourself and so father, we know that it is you that is in control of everything that happens here”.

She continued, “And so we pray for the machines that we are using here, we pray for connectivity, we pray that they will work. We pray that they will work throughout the day so that everybody will have the opportunity to register.

Father, we pray for the party agents, every single one of them we pour out your blessings on them. For all of them there is a gift that has been deposited in them and I will pray father so that you will be with them, you will be with each of them. Be with their families as they go in and out of here. We thank you for your presence is in this place. Thank you Lord Jesus”.

Recall that on Tuesday, the first day of registration, the exercise suffered some setbacks due to erratic power supply and network challenges.

Some of the areas that suffered system challenges in key districts, include Ayawaso West, East, North, Central, and Korley Klottey.

The interruption came after a brief period of smooth operation on the second day of the registration process.

This development drew sharp criticism from numerous stakeholders, especially the political parties.
