Bawumia Meets Pope Francis

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has arrived in Italy for his historic visit to Italy and the Vatican State.

 

Dr Bawumia yesterday, April 24, paid a working visit to His Holiness, Pope Francis at the “auletta,” or small study, of the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall, a statement issued by the Holy See Press Office said.

The Vice President during his visit, also met with Ghana’s Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, who was accompanied by his wife, Samira Bawumia and other government officials, discussed with the leader of the Catholic Church, many national and global issues.

 

The meeting was also to strengthen Ghana’s longstanding relationship with the Vatican State and the 87-year-old Pope.

 

Dr Bawumia, also met with the Vatican Secretary for relations with States and International Organizations, H.E Paul Richard Gallagher.

 

“I paid a working visit to the Vatican today and had the honour and privilege to meet with His Holiness @Pontifex.

 

This landmark meeting afforded me the opportunity to discuss many national and global issues with Pope Francis and to strengthen Ghana’s longstanding relationship with the Vatican State and the Pope.

 

I also, had a meeting with the Vatican Secretary for relations with States and International Organizations, H.E Paul Richard Gallagher and Ghana’s pride, Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson, who was kind to show me around the Vatican.

 

Pope Francis prayed for Ghana and her leaders”, Dr Bawumia said in a post on social media yesterday.

 

Meanwhile, the Holy See Press Office, has said the meeting underscored the positive relations between the Holy See and Ghana, with a particular emphasis on various aspects of Ghana’s political and socio-economic landscape.

 

The discussions highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the two entities, especially in critical sectors such as, education and healthcare.

 

The talks at the Secretariat of State, also delved into current international matters, with a specific focus on security challenges faced by countries in West Africa and the Gulf of Guinea.

 

This exchange of views reflects the shared concern for addressing regional security issues and fostering stability in these areas.

 

The meeting between Pope Francis and Vice President Bawumia, signifies the ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the Holy See and Ghana, aiming to strengthen partnerships and address mutual concerns at both national and international levels.

 

Other key areas, included the political and socio-economic landscape of Ghana, with particular attention given to collaboration in fields such as education and healthcare.

 

These discussions underscored Ghana’s commitment to advancing its socio-economic development and fostering partnerships with international stakeholders to achieve common goals.

 

Also, part of the delegation is Dr Bawumia’s spokesperson and NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the Tano North constituency, Dr Gideon Boako and Fred Oware, an advisor to the Bawumia Campaign, as well as others.

 

Dr Bawumia is expected to return to Ghana today Thursday, April 25, 2024.
