3 Chinese ‘Thugs’ In Court For Torturing Compatriots With A Metal Bar 

Three Chinese nationals and a Ghanaian, have been arrested and arraigned before court for allegedly torturing two compatriots, Chinese in the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga.

The accused persons, whose names were given as, Pan Young, Li Sonfeng and Ran Xiaojun, carried out the barbaric act on March 4, 2024, using a metal bar, leaving one of the victims severely injured at his back and currently receiving treatment.

They were said to have pounced on the victims in a Rambo-style manner, at the entrance of the victim’s residence, where the suspects have gone to lay ambush.

When they appeared before the Circuit Court in Bol­gatanga, they all pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit crime and assault.

The three Chinese, together with their Ghanaian accomplice were, however, granted a bail of GH¢160,000 in total.

As part of the bail condition, the court presided over by Mr Sumaila Mbache Ahmad, ordered that the sureties must own landed property, according to a ‘Ghanaian Times’ report.

Chief Inspector Francis Tamanja, told the court that the complainants are suppliers of ag­riculture products to the company of the victims in Bolgatanga.

Chief InspTamanja, said that at about 7pm, on March 4, the victims on board a Toyota pick-up, stopped at the entrance of their residence at Tindonsobligo, a sub­urb of Bolgatanga.

The prosecution told the court that, the accused laid ambush and attacked the victims when one of them (victims) got down from the car to open the gate.

Chief Insp Tamanja, said that the accused, ordered the victims to lay down and they hit them with a metal bar.

He said the accused jumped into their car and sped off.

Chief Insp Tamanja, told the court that one of the victims was receiving treatment at the hospital.

The court heard that the police arrested the accused, who attempted to escape, took their statements and put them before court.
