Stop Linking Our Son’s Death To Food Poisoning

Family of Late John Kumah Tells Public

The family of the late deputy Finance Minister, Dr John Kumah,is asking the public, especially spokespersons and friends of their beloved son, to desist from making wild claims about his sudden death.

The family is displeased with claims that the late Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ejisu constituency in the Ashanti region, was poisoned by unknown people in Tamale, Northern Region capital.

A member of the family, who happens to be the MP for Kumawu constituency, Ernest Yaw Anim, speaking on behalf of the family, said it is premature for people to link the death of their son and brother to food poisoning.

According to him, the family as it stands has no position on the allegation being bundled around, but will opt to wait for an autopsy report confirming or stating otherwise.

Speculations here and there but as it stands now, the family has no position. We will wait until the autopsy report is ready and we will know what led to death of our dear brother. So, for now what I can say is that let us ignore everything in the air and wait until the family itself comes out and communicate as to the cause of death”, he said in a recent interview.

According to Mr Anim, “People can speculate but, then we shouldn’t forget that he is from a family. The family is grieving. So, if you go out there and say all manner of things, consider the family internet first, put the wife, put the children put the father just take yourself…that if you are the mother is that how you would want people to go aboutspreading rumours about the death of your son?”

Wontumi’s Boy’s Agenda

Their concerns, follow a video of a broadcast journalist with Kumasi based Wontumi TV, owned by Ashanti Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, making a claim that the deceased MP was poisoned in Tamale together with his employer some months ago.

Oheneba Asiedu, whose video has gone viral said the target was the regional chairman popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

In one of the videos sighted the presenter said, “Somebody brought grilled Guinea fowls and later diehuo to Chairman Wontumi and John Kumah to eat and that was when the issue started…the medical team of the Vice President suspected food poisoning and so treated them after vomiting in the night”, he said.

Since the incident, John Kumah, according to the broadcaster, didn’t remain the sameuntil his passing. He is said to have travelled to Germany and India to seek medical care.

On the day of his passing, Dr Kumah was being transported to Accra from his constituency to travel to Germany for medical assistance. He, however, died at the Suhum Government hospital after his situation deteriorated.

Policecomplaint

Meanwhile, wife of the late Deputy Minister, Apostle Lilian Kumah, on Friday, March 8, 2024, lodged complaint with the Accra Central Police Headquarters against Captain Smart, a radio and TV presenter with Media General over his claim that her husband died of poisoning.

Lilian Kumah, expressed deep concern over the damage theclaim is causing her husband’s reputation and the family.

With tears the grieving mother of six demanded that, the Ghana Police Service to initiate investigations into the statements made by the Onua TV presenter.

Following the demise of the MP, a video of the broadcaster has resurfaced where Captain Smart head making claims that Dr Kumah and Chairman Wontumi were poisoned. He had made the claim on his show a while ago.

He suggested, in the weeks-old clips, that some politicians and businessmen orchestrated the poisoning out of spite against the former Finance Minister.

In a related development, mother of the late MP has called for investigation into her son’s demise. She made the call-in reaction to rumours that her son was poisoned.

The late John Kumah’s mother who was distraught, stated in a JoyNews interview that “Dr Kumah’s death has caused the family immense pain.”

She demanded that an autopsy be performed to verify the rumours in relation to his son being poisoned.

She wondered why anyone would wish death for her son, and noted that the family’s backbone has been destroyed.
