Ho West NDC Boils Over ‘Mugabe’ MP
A group calling itself “Concerned Youth of Ho West Constituency” are up in arms with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah, over what they described as the dwindling fortunes of the party under his 16 years in parliament.
The youth at a press conference yesterday, Wednesday, March 22, 2023, said the party is currently heading into a ditch because ofthe alleged divisive leadership style of the MP and therefore needs to be rescued.
According to them, the voting pattern of the party has declined since the MP took over from his predecessor, Mr.Francis Agbotse, in 2008 and turned it into a “dynasty.”
The president of the group, Emmanuel Dorbi, who addressed the media, alleged that, even at the constituency level, the MP has divided the rank and file out there, and causing some party supporters to defectto the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“Firstly, is the DIVIDE AND RULE TACTICS being orchestrated or adopted by the Member of Parliament (MP) Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah from the branch executives through to the constituency executives in the Ho West Constituency all in the name of winning primaries.
It is an undeniable fact that, during our branch elections somewhere last year, Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah bought nomination forms for all the incumbent branch executives throughout the whole constituency as people he considered loyal to him and will eventually vote for him during the primaries instead of him having a level playing field or make it open for anybody interested to contest. This conduct of the MP is being considered by we the CONCERNED YOUTH OF HO WEST as uncalled for and undemocratic,” the group stated.
They also accused the MP of disgracing the party in the constituency, as well as the region, for signing a petition against the recent national executive’s decision to make changes to the parliamentary leadership, and failing to congratulate his colleague Volta Caucus member, Kwame Agbodza, after his appointment as the deputy Minority Chief Whip.
“We were expecting our MP Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah to show leadership as the Volta MPs Caucus chairman to send a congratulatory message to the newly appointed leadership, most especially his brother Hon. Kwame Agbodzah and thereby commending the decision taken by our able national executives, it was rather shocking and surprising to note that our MP did the contrary.”
“Meaning, Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah was among the sixty MPs and in fact the number twenty-fifth on what we described as the infamous petition. Ladies and gentlemen of the press we this CONCERNED YOUTH OF HO WEST see this conduct of the MP Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah as an indictment on the constituency, a total disgrace to the constituency and as well as a curse on our generations, knowing very well the NDC is the government-in-waiting with our dear former president His Excellency John Dramani Mahama,” excerpts of the group’s statement added.
The group has, therefore, demanded that the MP, who is also the chairman of the Volta Caucus in parliament, should step aside for a new face in order to maximize both presidential and parliamentary votes of the NDC in the area.
Mr. Dorbi, accompanied by his secretary, Vincent Pantey, as well as the public relations officer (PRO), Anku Eric, hasserved notice that failure by the MP to heed to the group’s demands would lead to a legitimate force.
