‘My Bodyguard Is Alive’ – Mireku Duker Rubbishes Fake Media Report
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, George Mireku Duker has vehemently denied malicious media reports, linking him to an alleged miner who was shot and killed by some Chinese nationals at a mining site in the Western Region.
According to the lawmaker, who doubles as Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources insists, he has no other bodyguard anywhere apart from the one assigned to him by the Republic, an officer of Ghana Police Service who is alive.
“I wish to state emphatically that, I have only one (1) bodyguard, assigned to me by the Republic. My bodyguard, an officer of Ghana Police Service is alive. I do not have any other bodyguard anywhere nor have I ever had a bodyguard with such name in the said publication,” Mr Duker said in a disclaimer sighted by The Anchor.
This follows a mischievous publication by some news portals claiming that, the MP’s bodyguard whose name was only given as Eric, has been killed at a ‘galamsey’ site in Bonsa.
But Mr. Duker, in a statement said the publication which appears to be deliberately spread widely, is not only misleading and fake, but defamatory.
“The publication going round is not only misleading and fake but defamatory as my detractors will not stop at anything just to tarnish my hard won reputation,” he said.
He mentioned that, “In their scheme to cause massive damage to me they have linked a person whom I have no connections with whatsoever with intent to subject me to public ridicule and hatred, reduce my estimation in the eyes of right thinking members of the public, scandalize and embarrass me beyond measure”.
Whiles urging the public to disregard the said publication, he served notice to any media house that published such malicious information to retract and apologize within 48 hours or face legal action, as he has since referred the matter to his legal team.
“I hereby entreat the public to disregard the publication since I do not have any association with the said alleged person nor do I have a bodyguard with such name. I urge any media house that has published the news item to withdraw the publication immediately and apologize thereon, in any case within 48 hours or face the consequences of the law”.
“I have since referred it to my lawyers for the necessary legal action. All should disregard this propaganda news item and treat with the contempt that if deserves,” the disclaimer stated.
