Blows At Ngleshie Amanfrom NDC

Tension is mounting within the Ngleshie-Amanfrom Constituency of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) after some strange names have been smuggled into the party’s branch register in the ongoing executives’ election.

The ensuing development, The Anchor gathered, has led to exchange of blows on the day of vetting, where one EdemVicker allegedly slapped a former Youth Organizer in front of the Constituency office for insulting the current Youth Organizer, AzigiAkrobortu, on the party’s WhatsApp platform.

But some aggrieved party members from the Constituency who are not happy about the fraudulent development, have petitioned regional and national hierarchy, to get the unqualified names on the register removed.

However, the group which stormed the party’s National Headquarters in Accra last Thursday, August 4, 2022 during the recent press conference said, the Regional Chairman appeared to have taken side in the development and, therefore, not willing to resolve the issues.

At a meeting on Tuesday, August 9, The Anchor is informed that, Mr. Coker was hostile to the petitioners, and at a point, ordered them to stand on their feet while shouting on them as though, they were students or apprentices.

Sources at the meeting told this paper, two Deputy National Organizers, Chief Hamilton Biney and Kobby Barlon, who are part of the meeting, were accused of taking side just like the regional chairman and therefore, failed to evaluate the evidence submitted by the petitioners and resolve the issue amicably.

Mr. Coker, this paper has learnt, would be contesting the regional chairmanship again for the third time and therefore, has been pulling strings to have his way and to be elected again.

The angry petitioners, prior to meeting the regional committee, narrated at the party’s headquarters that all the branch members were asked to bring their register which they did and submitted about 30 plus registers to Chairman Ade Coker, who promised to work on them, but failed.

They alleged that, Mr Coker did not do anything about their complaint and gave the register back to the Constituency, with those unqualified names still in.

According to the group, guidelines for the conduct of election as outlined by the national, were not followed by the constituency executives, a situation that compromised the entire election process.

They mentioned that, the existing branches have to give birth to the newly-created branches, because constituency does not have any right to register people into the registers.

The group alleged that; the Constituency is carrying out transfers without the knowledge of the branch executives, which is against the party rules.

“Very soon the Regional Executives will also smuggle names into register for branches,” they noted.

The group stated that, a recent directive was given to the Constituency and branches that, vetting will be done for only the old branches at 3pm but, Ade Coker allegedly gave a different directive, retreating Regional Executives Committee decision.

At that, the group said most newly branch contestants had left home, however people who knew such directives have remained at the center.

According to them the people have lost confidence in Mr. Coker, and therefore, the party should not allow him be part of panel that select people and draw time tables for programmes.

Meanwhile, this paper has learnt that the issue about the register has since been brought back to the national level for settlement after Ade Coker-led committee failed to resolve it.
