Shatta Wale makes history as the first Ghanaian to become RIAA Gold certified

The Recording Industry Association of America gold-certified Beyonce, Shatta Wale and Major Lazer’s ‘Already’ song on August 8, 2022. This award has gone into history’s books as Shatta Wale becomes the first Ghanaian to be internationally recognised and awarded by the RIAA.

RIAA’s Gold and Platinum Awards Program was created to honour artists and track sound recording sales. It has also become the benchmark defining success in the recorded music industry.

‘Already’, The Lion King Album is categorised in the Afrobeat genre. The song, by American singer Beyoncé, Ghanaian singer Shatta Wale and American trio Major Lazer, is also featured in the 2020 movie Black is King.

According to sources, portions of the video were filmed in Ghana led by director Joshua Kissi. Locations in the Eastern Region and Greater Accra Region were used for the music video.

‘Already’ won the 2022 Best Collaboration of the Year award at the 18th Urban Music Awards and 6th annual AEAUSA. In 2020, the song won Best Collaboration at the 2020 BreakTudo Awards.
