Bad Roads Put Bortianor MP In Trouble; Residents Vow To Uproot Him If…

The one-term in office tsunami, that befalls some former Members of Parliament (MPs) for Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfrom constituency in Greater Accra region, as a result of poor performance, couple with disrespect for electorate, is about to hit the incumbent MP, Sylvester Matthew Tetteh.

This follows raging complaints and anger from residents over deplorable state of many roads in their communities without efforts from the MP; in spite of his campaign promises prior to the 2020 general election.

A recent visit to the constituency which is under Ga-South Municipality by The Anchor, revealed very horrible road networks, with scary gutters, akin to manholes.

Areas such as New Bortianor around the Sempe Mantse (Otintor residence), portions of Kasoa tollbooth to Tuba, Akplaku to Kokrobitey, Agro-farms and its environs among others, were in terrible state.

At some places, portions of roads were covered with dreaded potholes as well as sands from the top of the hills when it rains; which virtually block the roads.

The situation is so worse that, recently-constructed tarred roads have also developed potholes and competing with non-tarred ones with no action from the authorities.

These developments have left motorists and commuters struggling daily to access the road for some time now. Residents told The Anchor they spend hours to get vehicle to their destinations.

According to some taxi and other commercial drivers, the little income they make is spent on buying spare parts for their vehicles, leaving them unable to feed their families, let alone, render agreed account to car owners.

Residents say, unlike in some jurisdiction where there is teamwork between the MP and local authorities at District and municipal assemblies to resolve some problems, same cannot be said at Ga-South.

They mentioned instances where the rains force sand from top of the hills to block the roads without instant action by leaders to get road grader and construction machines to fix the problem.

They cited for example, a section of the Tuba Road around Stockwell Montessori School which is in a messy state and abandoned, following recent downpour.

But on the lips of many in the constituency, there’s no different between the incumbent MP and his predecessors in terms performance, particularly in the area of finding solution to the road networks.

When this paper caught up with one Elvis Asiedu Antwi, a resident of the area whether their leaders have been informed about the problems, he said they do, but either they are reluctant or simply incompetent about how to lobby the powers that be to fix the issues.

According to him, though he is aware the MP, some time ago, brought the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah to inspect some of the roads, nothing has come out since those visits.

He also lamented to The Anchor, that almost every week he had to visit his mechanics for maintenance and replacement of spare parts for his car.  For him, being an MP goes beyond sharing rice and oils for electorate during festivities or attending weddings and funerals.

Another resident, who gave his name as Mr. Emmanuel Tetteh, also lamented that he spends more than two hours on the way before he gets to the main Kasoa highway for another car to work.

According to him, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Youth Authority is doing contrary to what he promised the people when he was campaigning.

He explained that, the confidence reposed in him has dwindled and therefore, the earlier he rises up to the challenge, the better for his chances of second term.

Since the Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfrom constituency was created, none of the MPs has managed to secure a second term. From the National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) Bright Edem Demordzi who served in the (6th Parliament, 2013 – 2017), to Mr Saad Habiab of NPP who served in (7th Parliament 2017 – 2021) and the incumbent Sylvester Tetteh who is serving the (8th Parliament) having won the 2020 parliamentary election.

More To Come…
