Amansie West Fails To Meet Revenue Target for 1st Quarter

The Amansie West District Assembly in the Ashanti region, has recorded an amount ofGH₵312,668.13,representing 24.84% of its GH₵1,258778.18 Internally Generated Fund (IGF) target for the first quarter of the 2022 fiscal year.

Comparably, the figure is below the quantum of money generated for the first quarter of the 2021 fiscal year.

District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Assembly, disclosed this in an interview with the media, adding that the Assembly could not make progress, particularly in the area of Internal Revenue Generation.

NiiOlllenu Lartey made this known during the first ordinary meeting of the Assembly held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

The DCE identified the cause of the Assembly’s inability to meet its target as the non-performance of the Area Council in terms of revenue generation and inadequate revenue collectors in the district.

“The situation has worsened with the end of the NABCO program, where some of the interns were supporting the revenue unit”, he said.

According to him, measures have been taken by the Assembly to step up revenue mobilization drive which include the involvement of some of the staff in revenue collection, heightening public sensitization within Area Councils on the need for people, to pay their revenue, conducting effective monitoring, deployment of taskforce among others.

He indicated that, people who refuse to pay taxes will be arraigned before Court.

The DCE thus, appealed to residents to make payments in order to avoid falling foul of the law.

He revealed that following the Assembly’s qualification in the District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT V), it has received an amount of GH₵ 1,213,504.00 as the district’s share of the allocation for the 2020 assessment.

On the construction of the District Hospital, Nii Lartey said the contractor is currently on site adding he gets daily reports on the progress of work. The project, he said, is scheduled to be completed in 36 months.

According to him, the general meeting is a platform for the Assembly members to present their challenges encountered in their various electoral areas.

He noted that most of the problems the Assembly members presented were on bad roads.

The Assembly members also made presentation on various sub-committees who play oversight role forthe numerous projects outlining reasons why the Assembly was not able to complete some of the projects.

Meanwhile, the DCE said the Assembly had been engaging stakeholders including traders and the transport unions to foster cooperation and deepenn relationships to enhance business growth in the central business district and its environs.
