W/R: Totobi Quakyi goes to the aid of Eno by funding road repair

Residents of Eno, a suburb of Kojokrom in the Essikadu Ketan Constituency of the Western Region, will now heave a sigh of relief after a former Information Minister, Kofi Totobi Quakyi, paid for the rehabilitation of their road rendered impassable by torrential rains.

Sekondi-Takoradi has been recording torrential rains for the past weeks, leading to loss of lives and properties.

Daily activities of residents have been changed by the often unpredictable and strong rains.

For people living in developing areas, their woes are unending.

One of such areas is Eno. An hour of torrential downpour last week destroyed properties running into several thousands of Cedis.

The only access road into the community was badly affected.

And for days, vehicles have struggled to traverse it. Due to the slippery nature of the road both commercial and private vehicles especially Sedan and mid-sized sedan cars are unable to use the road.

Hundreds of residents, especially school children, at the top end of the Eno community have been cut off.

Some parents, to prevent any unforeseen danger, have not allowed their children to go to school as they have to use the road to do so.

Some who braced the odds will have to carry their children on their backs amidst careful steps through the slippery road to a point where they join vehicles to school.

“I cannot continue like this. I fear that I will one day slip and hurt myself and my son on my back. After this, I have to clean myself again before I can go to the office. So sometimes I take two clothes and when I get here I change,” one resident recounted.

Elders of the Eno community have tried all they can to fix the challenge but have been unsuccessful.

Left with no option, they decided to levy residents GH¢100 each to help fix the road. Unfortunately, after computation the amount was not been enough.

But former Information Minister Totobi Quakyi lives in the same constituency and an SOS was sent to him and he responded to pay for the rehabilitation of the destroyed portion of the road.

After an assessment of the road, machines were hired and materials bought to fix the stretch of road that was rendered impassable.

“Now, I’m dead certain that all those who were not going to school, had to change clothes before they go to work or were inconvenienced by the bad nature of the road can now be happy and I’m happy they are happy. This is what this life is about,” Mr. Totobi Quakyi said

Residents and opinion leaders who heard of the benevolence of Mr. Totobi Quakyi applauded him for his selflessness.
