We’ll Deal With You If… …Hopeson Adorye Threatens Special Prosecutor

A failed-parliamentary aspirant for Kpone Katamanso constituency, Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, has descended heavily on the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, warning they will deal with him, if he continues to toe a certain line in the discharge of his duties.

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist, who once worked at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) but was allegedly sacked for unexplained reasons, believes MrAgyebeng is doing his job with open bias against certain people.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM’s political talk show monitored by The Anchor, Mr. Adorye said, “we will hold his balls”, if he continues on that tangent.

In a strong notice, he warned that they would be forced to go after the astute lawyer, if he does not enshroud bias and make good use of the huge sum of money that are allocated to his Office annually.

“If he continues, we will hold his balls. If we say we will hold his balls, it means we will take him on”.

The outburst of the failed 2020 parliamentary candidate for the Kpone Katamanso constituency, stems from the recent treatment meted out to former Head of Monitoring Unit of the Forestry Commission at the time Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John headed the Commission.

Charles Owusu’s name popped up in the Will of the onetime former General Secretary of the NPP, as one of the executors of the politician’s controversial properties.

Owing to the controversial nature of the Will, the Special Prosecutor was petitioned to look into the matter.

Recall that in March, Corruption Watch and some 14 civil society organizations (CSOs), petitioned the OSP and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), to investigate the acquisition of state lands and related matters arising from the publication of the Will of Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie.

Subsequently, Mr Agyebeng froze the assets of Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, as it continues investigations into allegations of unlawful acquisition of state lands.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor said that the move was to prevent executors and beneficiaries of the late Sir John’s Will from dissipating his assets before investigations were completed.

Charles Owusu as one of the executors of the Will, therefore, became an interested party.

As a result, Owusu who is yet to be invited by the Special Prosecutor, voluntarily visited the Special Prosecutor’s Office to make known his intention to travel in case he will not be needed any time soon.

But what was expected to be a cordial engagement turned into something else, as Charles has accused the Office of intimidation by soldiers during his visit.

Charles who stormed studios of Asempa FM to make pubic his ordeal on the popular ‘ekosiisen’ show last week, was accompanied by Hopeson.

After explaining his side of the issue, his friend Hopeson Adorye, who was incensed by his friend’s ordeal went berserk, saying the SP should not use his Office to scare and intimidate people.

The angry communicator charged, the SP must not treat people who come to his Office as though they are coming to ‘Gonda Barracks’.

He went on to accuse the SP of not continuing the work of his predecessor Martin Amidu. “Have you taken notice of the money government spends on that Office? Are you aware? You see that huge building? Do you know the money that goes there every year? Show me one corruption case he has prosecuted successfully?

Do you know the number of petitions on his table? All the investigations that were done by Martin Amidu are still on his table begging for attention”.

We should not allow the Office to scare people. It should be the case that if someone is called to the Office, the person goes there with confidence devoid of fear and anxiety to help the course of investigation”.

The often reckless NPP communication team member, corroborated claim by Charles that the premises of the SP Office is flooded with soldiers”, he added.

Hopeson continued “The way we do our things it makes people have a different thinking about us. Special Prosecutor should not make his office look like the GonjaBaracks.

If you go to his Office, the number of soldiers on his premises is no joke”.

He accused MrAgyebeng ofcherry pickingissues that come before him because there are heaps of petitions on his table he should be interested in but he is turned a blind eye to them.

According to him, he was the first person to petition the Office but he is even yet to receive acknowledgement from the Office. “When he went to that Office I was the first person who petitioned his office but he is yet to touch it.

But he has time to deal with something that is making the rounds on social media. Ask him the petition I sent to him, ask him if he has not seen it. Ask him if he has even acknowledged. Has he written to me that Hopeson, I have received your petition.”

He told host Omanhene Kwabena Asante, that his petition contains charges of thievery involving huge moneys by peoplehe refused to mention but said the SP, is rather focusing his attention on a dead man whose Will has been leaked on social media.

“My [petition] and the Will which one went first? There is a big money involved you, you have time for someone’s Will and you are tolerating this?” he questioned.

He did not understand why Sir John made two people his executors of his Will but the Special Prosecutor, is only targeting Charles Owusu and harassing him with soldiers.

Hopeson asked MrAgyebeng to show his score cared in the midst of the huge allocations made to his Office to fight the corruption menace.

“Someone has made his money, someone has made his properties and said if I am no longer alive, serve as a witness. The witnesses are two but the other person [Nana Boakye] has not be called. What is this?

My biggest problem is that the executors are two why is that he is going after only one person [Charles Owusu].We won’t agree to this pick and choose. Fairness should work in this country! Two people are executing, call all of them, take all of them to court. Take all of them to court. Did they say executor, executor two?

They said two people should be the executors so why have they singled out one person? You are sitting there doing selective justice”, he said.

Adding “You should ask Special Prosecutor what he has done with the moneys that have been allocated to him annually. He should show us where the money is.

Every year, he is asking for more money because we want to fight corruption yet we are not seeing any corruption fight. We are just wasting money. People are walking about with money go and arrest them you are just talking.

You are interested in someone who is dead property? If he was alive and you are going after him as a result of claims of corruption that would have made sense. See the countless corruption cases we have been talking about in this country. This is how we are going to waste Ghana’s money?”
