AFCON qualifiers: Ghana hopeful of beating Madagascar today

The Black Stars of Ghana will have an eye on World Cup preparations while playing in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ghana hosts Madagascar on Wednesday at the Cape Coast Stadium in their opening Group E game of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

Coach Otto Addo will use games in the qualifiers as preparations for the 2022 World Cup due to the clumsy nature of the international break.

The games will give the gaffer a fair idea of which players to send to Qatar later this year. It is also a chance for the Borussia Dortmund talent developer to transfer his philosophy to the team.

Otto Addo invited 33 players for the opening two games of the qualifiers, and will travel with the team to Japan for the Kirin Cup tournament in a fortnight time.

The German-born Ghanaian led the Black Stars to make a return to the global showpiece, after missing the 2018 edition.

He becomes the first Ghanaian to play and coach the team at the World Cup.
