E/R: Armed robbers kill 2, bolt with Ghc1million as fear grips gold dealers

An armed robbery attack on a gold dealership firm at Asamang Tamfoe in a broad daylight has resulted in the deaths of two persons while one sustained gunshot wounds.

The robbers absconded with one million cedis.

The six-member robbery gang all wielding AK 47 stormed the Asamang Tamfoe community at about 2:30pm having come there around 12:30pm without arms to pick information and survey the area by speaking to some unsuspecting residents.

The robbers in Rambo style fired indiscriminately and violently broke into BH Minerals shop, shot the security man on duty, Kennedy,33 years and took away GHC1,000,000.00.

The robbers took the pump action gun of the security man and whilst fleeing the town with the booty, the robbers came across Kwame Clement, 45, a resident whom they spoke to earlier before the robbery, and shot him for fear of revealing their identity to police.

A passenger aboard a sprinter bus heading towards Accra direction by name Joseph Avemegah, 46, years sustained gunshots wounds at the left side of his back and was rushed to Enyiresi Government Hospital for treatment whilst the security man, Kennedy and Kwame Clement, were rushed to Hawa Memorial Saviour Hospital, Osiem, and Healthline Medical Centre, Anyinam respectively.

But the two were pronounced dead on arrival. Bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Chad Mortuary, Ankaase to be taken to Police Hospital Mortuary, Accra for preservation.

The robbers fled before the arrival of the Police from Anyinam. The Police investigators however found gunshots on the wall and doors of the office. Moreover, eleven empty cartridges, fourteen mm empty AK 47 ammunition, twenty-six unused AK 47 ammunition, and one bullet were also retrieved at the scene, with blood splashed on the corridor, sliding door, and the floor.

Later, the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr. Alexander Fosu Ackah, the Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr. Emmanuel Twumasi and the Kibi Divisional Police Commander, Magnus Sam visited the scene of the crime and interviewed victims and other people around.

They proceeded to Health Line Hospital where a survivor of the robbery, Joseph Avemegah, was admitted. The Regional Commander generously gave money to Joseph Avemegah and wished him a speedy recovery.

Prior to the Asamang Tamfoe’s deadly robbery attack on May 27, 2022, a similar attack had occurred on another gold dealer at Akyem Adukrom near Kyebi on May 24, 2022.

Fortunately, Police have arrested the five suspected armed robbers who were involved.

A police intelligence report sighted by Kasapa News said: “On 24/05/22, Regional Intelligence Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command picked intelligence that Armed robbers have attacked a gold dealer at Adukrom near Kibi and were heading towards Kumasi.

The team quickly mounted surveillance on the Accra Kumasi Highway. On 25/05/2022 at about 0100hrs, the team intercepted a Toyota Land Cruiser with trade Plate Number DV 4142 F with five persons on board including the driver namely Adams Awal- 32years, Ibrahim Hamidou, Akwasi Anokye from Niger- aged 50yrs, Inusah Moro- 28years, Nasiru Salifu – 32years and Kwadwo Amponsah – 31years

The report added: “The car was forced to stop since the occupants were showing resistance. Two of the tyres were subsequently deflated. An instant search conducted in the car in their presence revealed one AK 47 Assault Rifle with Number 12142372 plus two magazines loaded with twenty- four (24) rounds of ammunition, one python Revolver pistol, Eight (8) BB live Cartridges, Nine (9) gold nuggets and cash the sum of Nine thousand and seventy-seven Ghana Cedis. (Ghc 9077.00) .The suspects are detained and exhibits including Toyota Land cruiser retained and the vehicle impounded for investigations”
